Mason &
Hamlin # 9504
Screwstringers came in a number of sizes
and configurations. This one is
known as Style B and is 7 5" long. The case style is more along the lines
of a European grand. To tune the piano a tuner can use the supplied wrench
(just visible clipped to the back of the cornice) or use the T hammer that
came supplied in the uprights. The cornice is removable by undoing two
locking screws to lift the cornice away exposing the heads of the J Hooks
for tuning. Built in 1896 this must have been one of the last screwstringers made. The
legs and lyre apper original and are of the more modern Mason & Hamlin design.
