Old Knabe uprights are extremely well made and durable. This one has a nice ebony finish with inset gold pin striping. It has an open faced pinblock with curly maple veneer on its face. One oddity is the keybed. Most uprights have a slab of constant thickness upon which the keyframe is attached. Knabes of this vintage have an inclined plane upon which the key frame rests. The angle is set into the keybed resulting in piano keytops which are parallel to the floor. In most pianos the keys themselves are slightly inclining towards the piano player. The perimeter of the keybed is made parallel to the floor, however, for appearances sake when looking at the profile of the case. A complicated bit of woodworking to accomplish this. See the pictures of a section of one of these keybeds
