McPhail Upright #13199

This piano was built for the Brockton Fair of 1887. Many makers would display special pianos at public outlets to boost sales. This one has raised brass panels instead of the more common carved wood. This model like many McPhails has tension compensating rods in the back. They are meant to make the whole structure more rigid. An idea seemingly borrowed from the 1871 Mathushek.
